make sure your son gets enough sleep and eats well
•
release your son to the coach and the team
•
monitor their academic performance through progress book
•
make sure they have a ride to and from all team activities
Before the first game, consider asking your son these questions:
•
Why are you playing?
•
What would be a successful season for you and the team?
•
What goals do you have?
•
What do you think your role on the team will be?
Once your son has answered these questions you need to try to accept them as your own
and write them down so you can refer to them during the season when needed.
During the game:
•
model appropriate behavior – poise, confidence, and good sportsmanship
•
focus on the team and the team goals
•
be positive – be a cheerleader
After the game:
•
give your son time and space to recover
•
do not question the actions of your son, teammates, coaches, or officials
•
be understanding, a good listener, and remind them of the big picture
After the season:
•
encourage your son to play other sports
•
encourage them to participate in off season work outs
•
monitor their academic performance through progress book
•
remember – Expect To Win in everything we do on and off the field.
